Details:
Overview
We pick you up at Anchorage hotels or Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and begin our journey along the Seward Highway—an official National Scenic Byway known for glaciers, mountains, and wildlife. This fully narrated experience blends a comfortable transfer to Seward with classic Alaska sightseeing, a wildlife visit, and a scenic photo stop, ending with a convenient drop-off at the Seward cruise ship terminal.
Anchorage to Turnagain Arm (Photo Stop)
South of Anchorage we skim the edge of Potter Marsh, part of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. The highway then hugs the tidal waters of Turnagain Arm, where steep mountains plunge to the sea. We pause at a designated turnout—often Beluga Point—for photos and, conditions permitting, a chance to spot Dall sheep on the cliffs or beluga whales in the inlet.
Portage & Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC)
Continuing south, we pass the remains of Portage, a community shaped by the 1964 earthquake, and arrive at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. You will have 1 hour to explore the Center. This sanctuary cares for Alaska’s iconic animals; you can view bison, elk, moose, caribou, musk oxen, eagles, and bears in spacious habitats while learning about conservation efforts. It’s a favorite stop for close-up photographs in a safe, respectful setting.
Kenai Mountains & Moose Pass
Back on the highway we climb into the Kenai Mountains, with vistas above and below the tree line—jagged peaks, hanging glaciers, and alpine valleys. We roll through Moose Pass, a small mountain town framed by lakes and waterfalls, then descend toward the coast and the town of Seward.
Arrival in Seward
We finish with a brief look at Seward’s busy small-boat harbor and then drop you directly at the cruise ship terminal for an easy embarkation. Settle in and enjoy the mountain-and-sea scenery that surrounds this charming port.
